Virginia Adventures

I didn't appreciate growing up in Virginia until I moved away. Isn't that how things always go?
As a young kid we had a creek in our backyard covered in vines and hidden by a small grove of trees and large bushes. It was the perfect place for imagination to flow and my friends and I to play. There were numerous stories of man eating turtles and two headed snakes that lived in the creek to keep us occupied. There was also a large "doughnut" bush that we could literally climb inside of and hang out in the round hole in the middle of the bush. Plus the dogwood tree that would give bloom to beautiful pink flowers.
As I grew up days consisted more of kissing under trees, eating McDonalds atop a friend's truck, chasing deer thru the woods, and hanging out in various parks smoking hookah. Any day could be made more wonderful by going to the lake, a park, or the woods.
For one of my birthdays, I went horse back riding in the mountains. Another year it was tubing down the Shanandoa (sp?). And one of my favorite days was when my family and I went apple picking in the mountains.
Now living in a dirty, crowded city I miss the open freshness of the forests and lakes. I never appreciated nature until I was taken away from it. My fondest memories consist of being out doors and, you can ask anyone, I'm definitely not the "out doorsy"type... but I do appreciate beauty and nothing can beat nature.
